Meet The 2021 Board of Trustees Candidates

Candidates for the Board of Trustees are elected each year to take part in the democratic process of electing representatives for three of Pioneer Electric’s nine districts. Members of the Board of trustees serve three-year terms before becoming eligible for reelection at the Cooperative’s annual meeting. Nominees are also selected by a committee of members each year. This year’s candidates are:

District 3

JEFF W. MOYER (incumbent), a Ulysses native and graduate of Kansas State University, has served on the Pioneer Electric Board of Trustees since October 2019. During his time with the board, he has enjoyed gaining a new understanding of the complex and rapidly changing electric industry. As the industry continues to evolve, he looks forward to helping guide the co-op to grow through these changes. Moyer also plans to complete his Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate (CCD). He believes there is always more to learn, and that knowledge will benefit the co-op – which will help its members and communities continue to be successful.

Moyer volunteers his time as a committee member for the Boy Scout Troop 186 and as a Deacon for his church. He is a pilot and aircraft mechanic for Moyer Aviation, Inc. He and his wife, Artrisha, have three children – Jazstyn (21), Jett (19), and Jyntri (18).

JAY B. ANNIS (nominee) is the nominated candidate for the Board of Trustees District 3 position. He and his wife, Pam, are Ulysses residents. Annis has dedicated 32 years to the oil and gas industry as an employee for Brown-Dupree Oil Co. in Ulysses. When he is not working Annis enjoys spending time with his sons Brett and Cody, grandchildren, visiting the mountains and golfing.

District 4

ALFRED ALEXANDER (incumbent) is a long-standing member of the Pioneer Electric Board of Trustees. This year marks his 35th year of service to District 4 and the entire Pioneer Electric service territory. He currently serves as the Board’s Vice President. Alexander is also a member of the PEAR (Pioneer Electric Round-Up) Board.

Alexander enjoys the opportunity to work together as a team and bring power to the communities of Southwest Kansas at the lowest cost possible. The feeling of being a servant to the members and employees of Pioneer Electric is something that Alexander values greatly.

Alexander is a resident of Haskell county, where he lives and farms outside of his board duties.

DENTON SCHLOEMER (nominee), a Ulysses resident, is the District 4 nomination for Pioneer Electric’s Board of Trustees election. Now retired, Schloemer previously worked in the gas industry for 30 years. Schloemer is involved with the Grace Lutheran Church in Ulysses and serves as a member of their Board of Elders. His position helps ensure that the church and its pastor are taken care of.

District 8

JOHN R. JURY (incumbent) understands the importance of rural roots and has applied that understanding throughout his time on the Pioneer Electric Board of Trustees. Jury has represented District 8 since 2012; he currently serves as the board’s Secretary and Treasurer.

Jury appreciates being a part of a well-managed, profitable, and forward-thinking organization. As a member of the Board of Trustees, he is committed to being a voice for the members.

Jury currently resides in Sublette, Kansas, as a Crop Insurance Agent. He has been involved in agriculture co-ops nearly his entire life and enjoys helping farmers and others in the agriculture community improve their lives.

JERRY BROWN (nominee) is the nominated candidate for Pioneer Electric’s at-large District 8.  He is the President and CEO of Brown-Dupree Oil Co in Ulysses.

In addition to running a business for the past 46 years, Brown has served on numerous boards and committees including the Grant County Economic Development Board, the Southwest Kansas National Bank Board of Directors. He has also been a part of several boards at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.
