Pioneer Electric H.U.G.S. Grant Funds Purchase of Portable Batting Cage

Pioneer Electric’s Helping Us Give to Society (H.U.G.S.) team presented a $4,000 grant to the Hugoton High School Baseball team. The grant will be used towards the purchase of a portable batting cage.

Coach Jose Licon says the portable cage will enhance the quality, safety and structure of the team’s practices.

“The open layout of our field makes retrieving foul balls difficult during batting practice,” said Licon. “The cage will keep all hit balls on the field, significantly improving safety, reducing interruptions, and maintain better control over our limited practice space.”

To be considered for a grant, projects must fall within one of more of the following focus areas: Human Need, Education, Culture & Art, Civic and Environment.

“Projects must meet very specific guidelines in order to qualify for a H.U.G.S. grant,” said Ruby Terrazas, energy services coordinator. “Purchasing this portable batting cage actually demonstrates an example of several of the focus areas that we look for and evaluate applications for.”
